Today, Tuesday 14th February 2017, marks the official opening and operations of the Argyle International Airport in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Thousands of patrons gathered at the airport site to witness the first commercial take-off of LIAT, flight 560, to Barbados. This was soon followed by the landing of a Boeing 767 Jet, operated by Dynamic Airways out of JFK, in-transit to Guyana.
The day climaxed with the landing Caribbean Airlines out of JFK at 3:40 p.m., and Sunwing Airlines out of Canada at 4:20 p.m. There was also an opening ceremony which saw addresses from other Caribbean leaders, members of government, diplomats, specially invited guests, and the honorable Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves.
Persons who were among the first to fly out of the Argyle International Airport expressed their happiness about the airport coming on stream.
Observers on the ground, as well as pilots flying into Argyle, also expressed their happiness about the opening of the Airport. One pilot expressed that flying into Argyle at night was as beautiful as "Flying into JFK".
