The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Office is monitoring the progress of a strong tropical wave located about 910 miles/1465 km to the east of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The system is moving westward to west-northwestward at about 15 to 20 mph (24 to 32 km/h), with an accompanying area of low pressure centered along the wave axis near 10N 48W.
Environmental conditions are conducive for some gradual development over the next 24 – 36 hours, and a tropical depression or tropical storm could form by the time the system approaches St. Vincent and the Grenadines, early Wednesday morning.
Regardless of development, some moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to spread across the island from late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Rainfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches (100 to 200 millimeters) are possible with higher amounts likely in mountainous areas. In addition, sea swells of 4 to 5 meters (12 to 15 feet) and gusts to storm force of greater than 39 miles per hour (63 km/h) are also likely.
RESIDENTS IN ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.
